Psychiatry
Psychiatric services are provided at Health Services under the direction of the Counseling and Student Development Center. Please call Health Services Psychiatry Services at 815-753-1311 for an appointment or for more information. A missed appointment fee is assessed to students who miss or fail to cancel their appointment at Health Services.
Mental health records are confidential. In accordance with federal and state laws, health records are not available to NIU staff, departments, or parents without specific written consent of the patient.
Patients may be referred for individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, or specialized testing to other campus services; those services include, but are not limited to, the Counseling and Student Development Center, Psychological Services, Counseling Lab, or the Family Center. Students may also be referred to off-campus facilities.
Health Services does not provide crisis intervention. Crisis intervention resources include:
